2015 4-H Camp

2013 4-H Camp Photo

You have all been anxiously awaiting it, and now it is here! The 2015 Marquette County 4-H Summer Camp will be held July 7-9 at Clear Lake Education Center, located in the Hiawatha National Forest. Campers (ages 9-13) will enjoy participating in a variety of fun, hands-on educational activities while at camp, including a high ropes challenge, nature exploration, swimming, astronomy, arts and crafts, drama, and lots of group activities. Youth do not have to be a current 4-H member to attend camp.

Older youth (ages 14 and up) are needed to serve as Junior Counselors. Youth serving in these positions will provide leadership (along with an Adult Counselor) to a cabin of younger campers. We are asking Junior Counselors to attend a Counselor Training the day before Camp begins (July 6th at 2:30 p.m.). Junior Counselors will be given the opportunity to participate in high ropes after their group of campers have gone through the course and for a $25 fee. Adult MEN are needed to serve as Counselors. Adults serving in these roles must complete the MSU Extension Volunteer Selection Process before they are accepted as volunteers. Adult Counselors provide leadership for a cabin of campers and youth counselors.

The Early Bird cost of 4-H Camp is $55 per youth already enrolled in 4-H ($65 for youth not yet enrolled in 4-H) and includes everything campers will need; daily meals, snacks, lodging, all program supplies, crafts, and instruction. This price goes up after June 5th to $70 for 4-H members and $80 for youth not yet enrolled. Youth and adult counselors attend camp at no cost.

Space at camp is limited. Registration will be completed in the order that applications and payment are received by the Marquette County 4-H Council. The final day to register a camper (space permitting) is June 26, 2015. Junior and Adult Counselor applications must be submitted to the MSU Extension office no later than June 15, 2015.

For questions or more information, please contact the MSU Extension office, located at 184 US Hwy 41 East in Negaunee. Call 906.475.5731 or email deisenro@anr.msu.edu.

Camper, Junior Counselor, and Adult Counselor forms are available at the Marquette County MSU Extension office, from your club leader, or can be downloaded here:

Orientation Information

Orientation Meetings
Mark your calendar and save the date!  ALL youth participants and a parent, are required to attend one of these meetings.  I also ask that the chaperons and CCAs attend at least one of these meetings.
mandatory Exploration Days Orientation meeting will be held at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, June 2nd.  This meeting will be a shorter version of the orientation meeting for individuals who have attended Exploration Days in the past. A mandatory Exploration Days orientation meeting will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 4th. This is the standard orientation meeting, for youth who have not yet been to Exploration Days. Location of both meetings will be determined at a later date. Please put this on your calendars now.

Identification Portfolios
Personal Data Sheet with a current photo will be needed for each youth and adult participant. These sheets will help county conference assistants (CCAs) and chaperones put names and faces together, put all pertinent information in one place and assist with identification and tracking if someone is missing. I encourage you to fill this information out now and submit it with your photo when you hand in your registration forms. You can have both the form and photo ready to hand in at the Orientation Meeting in June as well.
