4-H Winterfest at Kettunen Center

Attention youth ages 8 to 12 and 4-H volunteers, do you want to beat the winter blues? Here's a great way to do it! Join us at Kettunen Center!
 

The 4-H Winterfest workshop scheduled for Feb. 4-5, 2017, at Kettunen Center is now open for registration. Registrations can now be made by individuals, families, and county staff. Individuals who expect they will be receiving full or partial funding from local scholarships or councils, should contact their local county office prior to registering. This will insure payments are applied correctly.

Participants may register at https://events.anr.msu.edu/winterfest17/.  Workshop attendees who have not paid online with a credit card are still expected to send their payment to their county MSU Extension office or ANR Event Services at 446 W. Circle Dr. Room 11 in East Lansing, MI 48824, with a copy of their registration receipt prior to the workshop. If assistance is needed, 4-H staff can register individuals. Registrations must be entered into the ANR Events Management System no later than 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 13, 2017, at which time registration will be closed.

About the Awards Program:
The Awards program is an annual event that provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the many accomplishments of 4-H members, leaders, volunteers, and families. Here is the Awards and Year End Celebration Invitation. We hope you can attend this year's event. It is sure to be a wonderful time!
Individual Awards
As in past years, 4-H youth members (ages 9 and up) need to fill out the Individual Project Awards Forms if they would like to be considered for a project pin. Each enrolled 4-H member is eligible for a year pin and a project pin. The 2015-16 Project Pins List is to help you identify what projects you are eligible for. The same project pin and/or award cannot be received two years in a row. Cloverbuds (ages 5-8) will receive a certificate, but are not eligible to receive project pins.

Leadership, Citizenship, and Achievement Awards

Youth ages 12 – 19 (4-H age determined by age of child on 1/1/2016) are also eligible for Leadership, Citizenship, and Achievement Awards. Youth must fill out a cover sheet for these awards and write an essay.

Volunteer and Community 4-H Awards

Also, be sure to make nominations for Volunteer and Community 4-H Awards. Youth, leaders, volunteers and parents are encouraged to fill out a nomination sheet. This is your opportunity to recognize the outstanding contributions and efforts that others make to 4-H!

Deadline
Forms are due to the Marquette County 4-H Council no later than Friday, October 31, 2016. Only those who submit completed forms to 184 US Highway 41 East, Negaunee, MI 49866 by the deadline will be considered for awards. If you would like to submit your forms electronically, please email them to deisenro@anr.msu.edu.

Club Leaders, Kim Frost and Zita-Ann Riesterer, are inviting new and returning 4-Hers to their upcoming club kickoff meeting. It is scheduled for Sunday, October 16th at 3:30 p.m. at Moosewood Nature Center on Presque Isle.

Marquette County Fair Information

The Marquette County 4-H Council holds an Ice Cream fundraiser each year at the Marquette County Fair.  Funds raised support the youth and adult volunteers who participate in the Michigan 4-H Youth Development program.  4-H members, parents, club leaders, and Council members are encouraged to sign-up to volunteer for a shift in the 4-H Ice Cream booth (located inside the 4-H Building at the Fairgrounds).  A manager will be on-site during each shift to provide orientation and supervision. 

Thursday (August 11) – Sunday (August 14)
Fair is open to the public.  Volunteers will help take orders, run the cash register, scoop ice cream and keep the booth clean.

The Future We Want Workshop

A Youth Leadership & Global Citizenship Workshop

June 14, 2016 - 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. (Food and refreshments will be provided!)Marquette County MSU Extension Office - 184 US Highway 41 East, Negaunee, MI 49866 (The MSU Extension office is located in the Marquette County building next to the Michigan State Police Post)
   Who:
This workshop is open to all youth ages 10 and older and adult volunteers/parents. You do not have to be a current 4-H member to participate! All are welcome!
   Cost:
Free! Food and refreshments will be provided!
   What will participants do at this workshop?
Are you a youth who wants to make the world a better place? If so, you'll want to participate in this
exciting, interactive workshop that will focus on ways you and other young people can take action on
some of the most urgent issues facing our global community! World leaders from 193 countries have
committed to the Sustainable Development Goals; 17 interconnected goals that seek to achieve
extraordinary things by the year 2030 to make our world a better place for everyone. Participants in this
workshop will learn ways that youth can take action as global citizens to help solve global challenges
during this fun and active workshop! The future depends on what we do in the present. We hope you'll
join other young people, and others around the world, in making the future great, now!
