State Champs - Marquette County Horse Bowl Teams!

Again, the Marquette horse bowl teams (both junior and senior) won the state championship. Each year, the 4-H Horse Jamboree is held on April 16, at Michigan State University. The junior team was undefeated again this year, and won with a 57-point lead. The senior team also went undefeated and won with a 22-point lead. The senior team is now eligible to compete at The Quarter Horse Congress, located in Ohio, in October. The senior team consists of: Gentian Waller, Mollyann Howe, Emily Bertucci, Clara Churchill, and Katy Martin. The junior team comprises of: RiLee Waller, Nick Gauthier, Cassidy Calderwood, Anna Uren and Katy Gauthier.

The junior team has been competing at the state level for three years, and has won each time. The senior team won state last year and went down to Louisville, Kentucky, for the national competition. The 4-H Eastern and Western National Competitions do not permit a team or any member of that team to return to Nationals.

Horse bowl is a competition based on your knowledge of horses. It is set up similar to a jeopardy competition, in which the first person that activates his/her buzzer gets to answer the question. Thanks to our coach, Cathy Waller, the coach of our junior novice teams, Cathy Calderwood, and all the volunteers/parents at the State competition. Also, a special thanks to the 4-H council, and everyone else who helped us get to Lansing.

By RiLee Waller, 1st Chair of the Junior Team
